Staff Counsel, Police Accountability
Loren Jones serves as Staff Counsel, with a focus on Police Accountability. Her work includes a focus on community oversight of policing and reimagining effective strategies for creating authentic public safety for all communities. She also provides legal, policy, and technical advice to amplify advocacy efforts by organizations and coalitions. Prior to joining BPI, Loren worked at Dvorak Law Offices, LLC where she represented victims of police misconduct. In that role, she litigated or managed civil rights, criminal defense, criminal appeals, expungement, and personal injury cases in state and federal court.
Loren graduated cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law. There, she received the Rickert Award for Excellence in Service and the Student Leadership Award for her work in student organizations and clinical law programs. In those programs, she helped indigent clients from a wide range of backgrounds including incarcerated people, domestic violence survivors, and recent immigrants. During law school, Loren also externed with the Illinois House of Representatives, where her work included criminal justice legislation. And at the People’s Law Office, Loren represented people victimized by Chicago Police Department officers working under the authority of Jon Burge.
When not at BPI, Loren owns and operates a small business that creates and sells digital artwork to fundraise for community organizations all around Chicago.
