Affordable Housing — Coalition Building, Education and Outreach

For years, affordable housing has not been a high priority on state and local policy agendas. BPI believes that this is due in large part to misperceptions about what affordable housing is and how it benefits families, communities and businesses, as well as a lack of knowledge about workable solutions. That's why a critical component of BPI's affordable housing program has always been to educate opinion leaders, public officials and the public at large and to build partnerships among housing advocates and a diverse array of other organizations and interests.

BPI works with municipalities, policymakers, housing organizations, developers, unions, faith-based organizations and citizen and other advocacy groups to advance the understanding of the regional affordable housing crisis. BPI's collaboration with diverse constituencies has helped place affordable housing firmly on the regional policy map.

BPI's outreach and education efforts also include producing research-based publications, regional seminars and national conferences that educate key stakeholders about the benefits of affordable housing and about development and implementation of effective affordable housing policies.
