BPI carries out its public interest agenda with a staff of fourteen lawyers, policy specialists and support personnel, operating with an annual budget of just over $1,600,000.
In 2008, nearly half of BPI operating funds were provided by foundation grants. Fellowships, individual giving and a distribution from the BPI Endowment Fund accounted for nearly a third of funds. In addition, BPI received a portion ($265,000) of previously awarded Gautreaux attorneys' fees during the year.
Personnel and direct program expenses accounted for two-thirds of BPI's expenditures. An operating surplus increased BPI cash reserves by $26,000.
