As an independent public interest law and policy center for nearly fifty years, BPI is dedicated to advancing innovative solutions to pressing issues of social justice and quality of life in the Chicago region.  Today BPI’s work is focused on housing and community development, justice reform, public education, and political reform.

  • Housing and Community Development: Working to increase the availability of affordable housing, transform segregated public housing, and revitalize communities.
  • Justice Reform:  Working to reform Chicago’s police accountability system, and  to reduce prison and jail populations in Illinois’ juvenile and adult systems, and to increase opportunities for released prisoners.
  • Public Education: Striving to improve the quality of public education for all Chicago’s children, with an emphasis on schools with large numbers of students who live in public housing.
  • Political Reform: Promoting open, honest, and accountable government in Illinois.
