Are you an experienced Chicago public school teacher or administrator looking for a unique and powerful learning experience? BPI and the Chicago Schools Alliance are looking for Visit Team Members for upcoming Practice-Based Inquiry® (PBI) Visits in the 2007-08 school year.
Practice-Based Inquiry is a rigorous, formal protocol for using evidence and your professional judgment to do a whole school assessment.
In a PBI School Visit, a team of educators visits a school for a week. They follow students, watch teachers and interview stakeholders in order to develop accurate conclusions about teaching and learning at the school. Substitutes will be provided for teachers chosen to serve on a Visit team.
As a Team Member, you will:
- Spend a week focused on learning and teaching
- See how another school operates up close and in depth
- Get trained in and use the Practice-Based Inquiry® methodology
- Have great conversations with fellow professionals
- Help improve another school’s practices
- Get CPDU credits
Requirements:
- Completion of application process
- At least two years of classroom teaching experience in the grades of the school to be visited (most Team Members far exceed this minimum)
- Support of your principal
Contact Kim Zalent if you are interested in being considered for an upcoming Visit Team. Include in your email:
- Your name, email address, and phone number
- Name and address of your school
- The number of years you have taught, in which grade levels and subject areas, and in which type(s) of schools (e.g. start-up, magnet, student population, location)
- Why you are interested in serving on a PBI Visit Team
- A resume, if you have one
Teams are customized for each school receiving a Visit. The final team for any Visit will represent a diverse mix of grade levels, disciplines and experiences; at least one team member will be an administrator. Participation is uncompensated, although a substitute teacher for your classroom will be provided if you are selected to participate.
